While keeping cats strictly indoors protects them from trauma, diseases, and predators, a sterile modern home is deeply unnatural for an apex micro-predator. When their biological imperatives to hunt, climb, and scratch are thwarted, cats develop profound boredom, obesity, and destructive behavioral issues.
Vertical Territory is Mandatory
Cats view their environment in three dimensions. High vantage points provide them with psychological security and a way to survey their territory. Invest in tall, stable cat trees and wall-mounted shelves to allow your cat to navigate the room without touching the floor.
Simulating the Hunt
Feeding from a static bowl ignores a cat's predatory drive. Use interactive wand toys daily to simulate the stalk-chase-pounce-kill sequence, always allowing them to catch the toy. Ditch the bowl entirely and use food-dispensing puzzle toys to make them "work" for their calories, stimulating their intellect and burning physical energy.
